As part of the Transverse Thematic Working Group on Radiation at Météo-France, a training session on Monte Carlo methods for atmospheric radiation, including a tutorial on the htrdr code (https://www.meso-star.com/projects/htrdr/htrdr.html), will be held on Thursday 27 June 2024 from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Météopole site in Toulouse and the CEMS site in Lannion. A video link will be set up between the two sites and will be open to the outside world. The training material will be published afterwards. The course is open to external registrations. Contact: najda.villefranque@meteo.fr

Program: After welcoming the participants, at which time we will make sure that the htrdr installations have been carried out, we will give the basics of atmospheric radiation and its simulation by Monte Carlo methods. We will then explain the main features of the htrdr software and describe its input and output data. The rest of the session will be devoted to practical exercises.

The intention behind this tutorial session is threefold : to gather persons who are interested in using and/or developing htrdr, provide a few theoretical basis about the physics and simulation of radiative transfer in cloudy atmospheres, and offer participants the opportunity to learn how to use the software.
