This project is part of MCMET, a multi-disciplinary, scientific computing project funded by the Agence National de la Recherche. MCMET is conducted by the EDStar consortium, which consists of about fifty researchers working on the physics of energy and climate in various French laboratories.
The proposal is twofold, and each axis is at the intersection of physics and computer graphics:
- benefit from similar questions raised in the RAYFLAM project funded by INRIA and led by the Fire team of the LEMTA lab in Nancy, to work on spectro-spatial data structuration in Monte Carlo 3D radiation code [htrdr](https://www.meso-star.com/projects/htrdr/htrdr.html), together with other researchers of EDStar and of the [Meso-Star](https://www.meso-star.com/projects/misc/about-fr.html) company.
- continue the work begun by Raphaël Lebrun and Paola de Truchis de Varennes on coupling the radiative transfer equation with a statistic model of cloud geometry. Depending on the candidate interests and background, we could either try to extend this coupled model to 3D, or work on the computer science questions already raised by the implementation of the 1D version.
The questions that will be addressed first, as well as the balance between the two disciplines, can be adjusted to the candidate's profile.
